Founder’s Note
Samantha A Thomas
Just Choose Love began as a question I could not ignore:
What happens when the way we relate to people, profit, power, and the planet becomes the starting point for how we build?
I founded this movement to examine the relational foundations beneath leadership and institutional power. What exists today, however, is not the work of one person. It has been shaped by sponsors, speakers, partners, and participants who helped turn an idea into a living, collective inquiry. My role has been to convene, to ask difficult questions, and to help steward the conversation forward.
Rather than treating love as sentiment or branding language, I approach it as a disciplined leadership ethic with structural consequences. The way we use power and define success shapes institutions, and institutions shape the world we live in.
During my tenure as Executive Director of Dream Change, I founded The Love Summit to bring this inquiry into conversation with leaders operating inside real systems. More than 450 founders, executives, investors, business leaders, and government leaders have participated, examining how relational responsibility influences economic and social outcomes.
Following the inaugural Summit in 2015, the work was recognized by the World Economic Forum, and I was invited to join its Global Shapers community alongside other young leaders advancing social change around the world.
My academic and professional background has shaped the rigor behind this inquiry. I hold a Master of Science in Global Prosperity from University College London, where I studied love as a social ethic within economic systems. In 2023, I completed Applied Compassion Training through Stanford University School of Medicine, grounding this work in evidence-based research on compassion and leadership.
Over the past decade, my career has spanned nonprofit executive leadership, global development, executive brand strategy, and advisory work with founders and public leaders navigating growth and institutional responsibility. The ideas behind Just Choose Love have also been featured in outlets such as Fox 19, The Oregonian, and YES! Magazine.
Just Choose Love is a collective exploration of how leadership shapes the systems that shape us. I continue to serve as its founder and steward, working alongside leaders committed to building institutions that strengthen people and society.
