On Belief Systems

Belief systems disconnect us from our deepest nature and disconnect us from each other. They limit our ability to connect with those who don’t share our same beliefs, divide us, and move us away from love on an individual and collective level.

We fall into the trap of belief systems in effort to attain a feeling of safety and security, but there’s no such thing as security; everything is uncertain and all is temporary. Uncertainty can be frightening and cause us to act from fear (e.g., latch onto something superficial, like a belief system), but what is there to be afraid of if all of this is temporary? With that in mind, what matters most?

Our true nature is deeper than belief. As long as we let belief systems stand in the way of our connection with others, we will continue to be divided and stifle our potential to experience the greatest love, both in our personal relationships and in the world.

Love is limitless and transcends belief systems. It recognizes and prioritizes our common humanity — our shared, most fundamental needs and desires as humans — over our minute differences. It works relentlessly to connect and unify, never divide.

The division we’re experiencing as a world right now is merely a reflection of the world’s individual parts (us). We’re all responsible. Love starts at home, and that takes courage. Let’s go love on the people closest to us, especially when it’s hardest. It’ll ripple from there.
